Rhum Agricole: The Authenticity of the French West Indies

What if agricultural rum from the West Indies became your new favourite spirit? At Maison BRIOTTET, we have redesigned our rum to offer you a more accessible, more modern experience that is still just as authentic.

A heritage reinvented for you

At Maison BRIOTTET, we are delighted to present our new 40% Rhum Blanc Agricole (white agricultural rum), an exceptional spirit made from pure cane juice from the French West Indies. This rum replaces our former AOC Martinique rum, with a clear ambition to offer you an experience that is just as authentic, but more accessible and modern.

We have reduced the alcohol content to 40% to adapt to a new era of lighter and more responsible drinking, without ever sacrificing quality. Less expensive than our previous product, this rum remains faithful to BRIOTTET’s excellence, while opening up to a wider audience.

Agricultural rum is distinguished by the fact that it is made exclusively from pure, freshly pressed cane juice, known as vesou in Creole. Unlike industrial rums produced from molasses, agricultural rum is the result of a meticulous distillation process that preserves the natural aromas of the cane, offering a fresh, vegetal and fruity profile, with notes of sweet cane, tropical fruits and a spicy finish.

The History of Agricultural Rum: Four Centuries of Tradition and Expertise

The history of agricultural rum is deeply linked to that of the French West Indies. From the 17th century onwards, sugar cane, introduced by colonists, became the dominant crop on the islands. Initially, rum was produced from molasses, a by-product of sugar production. But it was in the 19th century that planters turned to distilling pure cane juice, giving rise to a more aromatic and refined spirit.
Over the decades, agricultural rum has established itself as a symbol of quality and authenticity. In 1996, Martinique obtained the first and only Appellation d’Origine Contrôlée (AOC) for agricultural rum, recognising its terroir, traditional methods and unique character. Today, agricultural rum is celebrated around the world, from trendy bars in Paris to tiki bars in New York, and on the beaches of the Caribbean.

Protected Artisanal Expertise, Adapted to Your Everyday Life

At Maison BRIOTTET, we perpetuate this ancestral expertise with the utmost rigour, while adapting it to contemporary expectations. Our Rhum Blanc Agricole (white agricultural rum) is produced using traditional methods, from harvesting the sugar cane to bottling, but with a touch of modernity: an alcohol content reduced to 40% for a smoother and more accessible taste.

The cane, grown under the Caribbean sun, is cut and pressed within 24 hours of harvesting to extract the vesou, a sweet and aromatic juice. This juice ferments naturally for two to three days, transforming the sugars into alcohol. It is then distilled in copper columns, a technique that preserves all the purity and complexity of the aromas. Finally, our rum is bottled at 40% ABV, without colouring or additives, for an authentic and lighter tasting experience.

The result is a remarkably fresh white rum, blending vegetal notes, tropical fruit accents and a spicy finish. Lower in alcohol but just as flavourful, it is perfect for responsible and modern consumption.

How to enjoy BRIOTTET Agricultural Rum ?

Our Rhum Blanc Agricole (white agricultural rum) can be enjoyed in many ways, depending on your mood and the occasion. As an aperitif, it can be enjoyed neat, slightly chilled, in a rum glass to appreciate its subtle aromas. It is also perfect for making iconic Caribbean cocktails.

Ti-Punch, a blend of rum, lime and cane sugar, is a must-try on the islands. For more festive occasions, our rum pairs beautifully with tropical fruit juices for refreshing punches, or can be transformed into a Mojito, Piña Colada or Daiquiri. We have even created a signature cocktail, the Briogreen, combining agricultural rum, blue curaçao and coconut liqueur for an exotic and original touch.

In cooking, agricultural rum brings a sunny note to your desserts and dishes. It enhances flambéed dishes, sweet and savoury sauces, sorbets and pastries such as babas or cakes with candied fruit.
